Today, Illinois REALTORS® bestowed its highest honor on managing broker Sarah Ware, officially naming her its 2026 REALTOR® of the Year.
“When you show up consistently and come prepared, this industry will meet you where you are,” Ware said in her acceptance speech in the state’s capitol. “I accept this honor with gratitude, with humility and a commitment to continue coming as I am — but also continuing to come prepared. … Let’s continue to do the work!”
As a Springfield-based nonprofit, Illinois REALTORS® is one of the state’s largest trade associations, representing more than 48,000 members involved in the sale, purchase, exchange or lease of property. Since the early 1960s, its reserved this annual award for those who have profoundly enhanced the professional image of REALTORS® through personal leadership, industry service and the promotion of civic, community and charitable causes.
A long-time member of the Illinois REALTORS® Board of Directors, Ware is a vital part of the association’s current leadership team as its 2026 treasurer. Having also served as president of the Chicago Association of REALTORS® and Women’s Council of REALTORS®, she has been recognized via the President’s Award, REALTOR® Achievement Award, RPAC Hall of Fame and other industry accolades. At the national level, Ware has served multiple terms on the NAR Board of Directors and as the association’s 2024 Housing Issues Liaison in Washington, D.C.
Ware advocates outside of the REALTOR® community as well, having served as the state legislative contact and a former director of the Cook County Land Bank Authority and on the boards of Thresholds and the Chicago Bungalow Association.
“She has helped shape the industry at every level,” Illinois REALTORS®’ Senior Director of Marketing and Communications Stephanie Sievers said in a statement announcing the news. “Congratulations, Sarah — and thank you for elevating the REALTOR® profession!”
