Springfield-based nonprofit Illinois REALTORS® announced today that it would put Sarah Ware forward for its leadership ladder in 2026. The managing broker of Ware Realty Group would join the association’s leadership team as its treasurer-elect, serving alongside president Jeff Kolbus, president-elect Debbie Prodehl and immediate past president Tommy Choi.

The four-person team leads the Illinois REALTORS®’ 28-member board of directors, where real estate professionals serve a three-year term advocating for private property rights, housing stability and affordability. One of the state’s largest trade associations, Illinois REALTORS® represents more than 48,000 members involved in the sale, purchase, exchange or lease of residential or commercial property in Illinois.

“With a real estate career spanning more than two decades, Ware’s dedication to the industry has led to a number of leadership positions at the local, state and national levels,” noted Illinois REALTORS® Senior Director of Marketing and Communications Stephanie Sievers in a statement announcing the news. Indeed, Ware served as president of the Chicago Association of REALTORS® between 2022 and 2023 and was named the local association’s REALTOR® of the Year in 2024. She’s served on multiple working groups and committees at Illinois REALTORS®, including its board of directors.

Her work extends to the national level as well. Ware served multiple terms on the National Association of REALTORS®’ board of directors and was the association’s housing issues liaison to Washington, D.C. in 2024. She also led the Women’s Council of REALTORS® and has been recognized in the past via the President’s Award, REALTOR® Achievement Award and RPAC Hall of Fame. Ware also advocates outside of the REALTOR community, having served as a state legislative contact and former director of the Cook County Land Bank Authority and on the boards of Thresholds and the Chicago Bungalow Association.

“It’s an honor to be nominated,” said Ware. “Illinois REALTORS® stands for more than real estate — it represents community, advocacy, and prosperity. I look forward to advancing our mission while ensuring strong financial leadership. There’s a solid legacy here, and I’m eager to help chart its future.”

Ware would be the first African-American woman to hold the position if elected, furthering her commitment to inclusive leadership and industry equity. The official election for treasurer will take place during the Illinois REALTORS® fall meetings in Lombard, IL later this year.ons
